First of all I want to start by saying that I LOVE coffee, but I have noticed a trend over the past five or six years growing in churches all over the triangle. I can count no less than five large churches that most people would consider very successful and gospel teaching places of worship that offer a coffee bar to all worshipers before the service starts. This started to get me thinking, why is this very addicting beverage ok in the eyes of the church and not alcohol? It seems strange to me that a substance that has more of an effect on the overall mood and mental state of a person than that of the same ammount of beer alright when the latter is not? I am not suggesting that the church start having a keg at all services or suggesting that coffee stop being served, I am simply trying to make light of the common stereotype that alcohol is unquestionably evil. To make the point that there is an unfair and useless taboo surrounding alcohol. Why is coffee good and alcohol so very bad?
